A.J. Otten is from Kentucky, the borderland of the Ohio River Valley where the North meets the South. His stories have won first prize in fiction contests held by Still: The Journal and Able Muse. He has also published stories and essays in Jabberwock Review, Valparaiso Fiction Review, Wind, Hot Metal Bridge, Coal Hill Review, and other journals. His writings explore religion, class, and identity in the Upper South. He is at work on a novel.
